As you can see, I crocheted my Scraptacular Baskets (above) using the scraps left over from making my So Eggstra blanket – I grossly overestimated when buying the yarn lol. I used two strands of double knit yarn held together – the purple I used throughout, and the other strand consisted of yarn scraps held together using magic knots. I just love how they turned out 🙂

Materials
This pattern can be made with yarn of any weight and any hook size (dependent on the final size that you desire.
The examples featured at the start of this blog post were crocheted using Paintbox Simply DK yarn held double and a 5mm/H-8 crochet hook (affiliate link to Amazon).
Pale lilac (used throughout) – small 48m/41yds, medium 72m/79yds, large 130m/142yds.
Scraps (used as the second strand of yarn) of banana cream, rosy pink, washed teal, candyfloss pink and sky blue totalling – small 48m/41yds, medium 72m/79yds, large 130m/142yds

Expected Final Size
Please note that if you use yarn of a different weight, an alternative hook size, crochet more tightly/loosely etc. the final size will be different. Due to this the measurements below are intended as a guide only.
Small – diameter of base 7.5cm , diameter of opening 10.5cm, depth 4.5cm

ch = chain
sc = single crochet
slst = slip stitch

BLO = back loop only
FLO = front loop only

Pattern Instructions
I recommend that you read through the entire pattern before starting to ensure that you understand what to do at each stage. Please note that this pattern is written in US crochet terms.
All stitches are to be worked into both loops, unless otherwise specified.
Ch1 does not count as a stitch.
This pattern is worked in a spiral. I strongly recommend that you use a stitch marker to keep track of the first stitch for each round. ONLY slip stitch at the end of a round when instructed.
If you are crocheting the scrappy version of this pattern I recommend using the magic knot (video tutorial available here) to join your scraps together. If you do this before you start you will be able to crochet the baskets faster.
Any stitch counts mentioned are based on the small basket featured at the start of this page, and so should be adjusted if you are making a bigger or smaller basket, using different weight yarn or a different size hook.
I recommend using the ‘yarn under’ (rather than the traditional ‘yarn over’) technique and holding the yarn double whilst crocheting this pattern, as this will create a denser fabric that holds its shape more easily.
If your ‘fabric’ is too floppy you can remedy this by:
Using a smaller crochet hook
Using thicker yarn
Using more strands of yarn
