Welcome to the Pole to Pole Crochet Along! 🧶❄️

This blanket design has been such a joy to bring to life — and it all started with my newsletter subscribers. They kindly voted for the stitch and theme, and from there I began brainstorming all the things that remind me of winter (but not Christmas specifically). Snowflakes, the aurora borealis, and the incredible animals that live at the poles all made their way onto my sketchpad — and slowly but surely, the Pole to Pole Blanket was born.

One of my favourite creative choices was swapping traditional penguin black for a deep navy blue. It reminded me of the long, dark skies of winter, filled with dancing auroras and crisp starlight. Paired with white to symbolise snow, the design feels both wintry and magical. I can’t wait for you to crochet along with me and bring your own colours and personality into this project!

5 fun pole-to-pole facts:

  1. ❄️ No two snowflakes are exactly alike — each one forms a completely unique pattern depending on temperature and humidity.

  2. 🐧 Penguins may look clumsy on land, but they are incredible swimmers, reaching speeds of up to 15 miles per hour underwater.

  3. 🐻 Polar bears actually have black skin beneath their thick white fur, which helps them absorb heat from the sun.

  4. ❄️ Snowflakes aren’t always six-sided! Though most form with six arms, they can also appear in columns, needles, or even triangular shapes.

  5. 🐧 The emperor penguin is the only penguin species that breeds during the harsh Antarctic winter — parents take turns keeping their eggs warm in freezing winds.

Bonus fact – penguins and polar bears would never meet in real life, as they live at opposite poles!
