When I was invited to take part in the Halloween Mosaic Blanket CAL, hosted by the fabulous Remington Lane Crochet, it was an instant yes from me! I’ve loved being part of collaborative crochet alongs in the past, so of course, I couldn’t resist joining this one. 🧶🎃

As soon as I heard the theme — Halloween — my imagination went wild with all the eerie, playful, and magical things that make this season so special. From pumpkins to black cats, cobwebs to cauldrons… there are so many iconic images that capture the spirit of spooky season.

One idea in particular kept bubbling up for me, something playful and a little bit haunting — the perfect inspiration for my design. It felt instantly recognisable, and tied completely to Halloween. 👻

This CAL is such a fun chance to get into the Halloween spirit, try out (or practice) mosaic crochet, and make a blanket you’ll be proud to bring out year after year.

5 Fun Facts About Halloween

  1. The word “Halloween” is old!
It comes from All Hallows’ Eve, the night before All Saints’ Day, and has been celebrated for over 2,000 years with roots in the Celtic festival of Samhain.

  2. Jack-o’-lanterns were originally carved from turnips.
In Ireland and Scotland, people used turnips or potatoes before pumpkins became popular in America.

  3. Black and orange are traditional Halloween colors for a reason.
Orange symbolizes harvest and autumn, while black represents darkness and the “unknown” of winter.

  4. Ghost stories are a Halloween tradition.
The Celts believed the barrier between the living and the spirit world was thinnest on Halloween, making it the perfect night for ghostly encounters.

  5. “Trick or Treat” has been around for less than 100 years.
While Halloween is ancient, the modern tradition of kids dressing up and going door-to-door for candy only became widespread in the U.S. in the 1920s–30s.
